Attendance

The first step to academic achievement is establishing excellent school attendance habits. 

Regular school attendance is important if a child is to attain his or her full potential.  At Cardenas Elementary School we urge you to make an extra effort to ensure that your child establishes a regular attendance pattern and that he/she arrives to school on time.  Students need to be in line at 8am. We congratulate and salute those students and their parents who are already meeting this goal. 

LAUSD set an attendance goal for all students to maintain a Proficient/Advanced attendance rate of 96% or higher throughout the school year.
This means that students must have:

• No more than one absence for every five weeks (25 instructional days) of school.

No more than SEVEN TOTAL absences in the school year.

“Each person between the age of 6 and 18…shall attend the public full time day school or continuation school or classes for the full time designated….”

Here are some suggestions to establish positive attendance habits:

• Create morning and evening routines
• Schedule all appointments for your child during non-school hours
• Post school calendars and schedules in a visible place
• Plan family vacations on non-school days only
• Help your child develop a positive attitude toward school by encouraging him/her to participate in school activitie
• Communicate with your child’s teachers and academic counselor on a regular basis

This school year we will continue recognizing all students who achieve Perfect Attendance with the following incentives:

• Each Month the classroom with 96% attendance or higher will receive a race car in the Race towards Success Bulletin board. At the end of the year the classroom with the most race cars will receive an award.  
• Students receive a perfect attendance tag each month they Perfect attendance.  Students are encouraged to collect all 9 tags.
• At the end of the year students with perfect attendance will receive an award and certificate.

PERFECT ATTENDANCE MEANS BEING PRESENT EVERY DAY AND ON TIME, AND NOT LEAVING.

Attendance staff will periodically review each student’s attendance pattern.  Parents will be notified if there is a concern that the student’s absences or tardies are threatening his or her educational progress.

El primer paso hacia los logros académicos es establecer hábitos de asistencia ejemplar. 

La Escuela Primaria Cárdenas le pede que hagan un esfuerzo para asegurarse que su hijo venga todos los días a la escuela y a tiempo. Los estudiantes tienen que estar en su línea a las 8 am. Felicitamos los estudiantes y sus padres que ya están cumpliendo con este objetivo.

 La meta de LAUSD es que los estudiantes mantengan una asistencia Competente / Avanzado de 96% o más durante el año escolar.

Esto significa que los estudiantes deben tener:

• No más de una ausencia por cada cinco semanas (25 días) de instrucción de la escuela.
• No hay más de siete ausencias totales en el año escolar.

Aquí hay algunas sugerencias para establecer hábitos positivos de asistencia: 

• Crear rutinas para la mañana y noche
• Programe citas para sus hijo/a fuera de horas escolares
• Ponga los calendarios y horarios escolares en un lugar visible
• Planear sus vacaciones familiares solamente en días que no hay escuela
• Ayude a su hijo/a desarrollar una actitud escolar positiva con animarlo/a a que participe en actividades escolares
• Comuníquese regularmente con los maestros y consejero/a académico de su hijo/a

​Este año escolar vamos a reconocer a todos los estudiantes con asistencia perfecta con los siguientes incentivos:

• Cada mes la clase con 96% de asistencia o superior recibirá un carro en la Carrera hacia Exito. Al final del año, el salón de clases con la mayoría de carros recibirá un premio.
• Los estudiantes reciben una cadena de asistencia perfecta cada mes que tenga asistencia perfecta. Animamos a los estudiantes para recoger todas las 9 cadenas.
•  Al final del ano estudiantes con asistencia perfecta reciben un premio y certificado 

ASISTENCIA PERFECTA SIGNIFICA ESTAR PRESENTE TODOS LOS DÍAS,  A TIEMPO, Y NO SALIR TEMPRANO.

Personal de asistencia revisará periódicamente la  asistencia de cada estudiante. Los padres serán notificados si hay una preocupación de la ausencias o tardanzas del estudiante.
